Facial Peels FAQ

Is the Ultra a facial treatment?

Our Ultra machine can actually perform several different facial treatments—each delivering younger, healthier looking skin.  However, the most popular treatment by The Ultra is the Microlift.  This is a nonsurgical facelift that works by stimulating your facial muscles and at the same time making your skin healthier by increasing its ATP (adenosine triposphate levels) by up to 500%.  The Ultra machine was developed by CACI International, a world leader in advanced aesthetic technology.

The other treatments available through The Ultra are:

Ultra HydroDermabrasion:  This is a very effective way to exfoliate the skin using ultrasound waves and water.  This type of exfoliation is very beneficial to the skin, but can also be used on clients with thin skin and active acne, where microdermabrasion or chemical peels may not be appropriate.

Ultra Penetration:  This treatment uses the ultrasound actuator which creates molecular friction to “push” ingredients down into the skin, leaving your skin more hydrated, glowing, and healthy then you ever thought possible.

Ultra Light Therapy:  The use of LED red or blue light therapy is used for calming the skin and controlling acne.  When low-level light therapy light waves penetrate deeply into the skin, they optimize the immune responses of our blood.  This has both anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects.  It is a scientific fact that light transmitted to the blood in this way has positive effects throughout the entire body, supplying vital oxygen and energy to every cell.

All of the above treatments can also be added on to other facial treatments or combined together to give you the most effective, individualized facial treatment you could ever achieve.  Your medical aesthetician will always advise and guide you to the most effective combinations to achieve your goals and address your specific skincare concerns.

Do any of the Ultra treatments hurt? Is there any downtime?

All of the Ultra treatments are so relaxing that many clients fall asleep during treatment, and there is no downtime of any kind.

What is Dermaplaning and what does it do?
A Dermaplane treatment is a “mechanical” way to exfoliate the skin since it involves a dermaplaning tool to physically remove and exfoliate the facial skin—similar to a Microdermabrasion or an Ultra Hydrodermabrasion which also fall under the heading of physical peels.

Your clinician uses this tool to actually scrape the skin away of excess dead skin cells.  Through this action, an additional benefit is that any excess facial hair is also removed which delights our clients with an excess of vellus facial hair, which can be a problem as we age.

Dermaplaning is an excellent way to exfoliate and peel the skin and is very effective on its own.  However, it can be combined with a chemical to create an even stronger “peel” by mixing modalities—similar to our Power Peel treatment.

Does it hurt?
No.  Dermaplaning is described by our clients as being very relaxing and many patients look forward to their monthly treatments.

I’ve heard that your facial hair can grow back thicker with Dermaplaning, is that true?
Absolutely not!  The facial hair grows back at the same rate.

What will my skin look like immediately afterwards?
Your skin will feel unbelievably velvety smooth with very minimal redness, and dermaplaning can be done every 6 weeks to maintain the results.
