The Brains Behind Radiance Medspa – Stephanie Schlageter Radiance Medspa in Belleair Bluffs is known for offering an individualized approach to medical skincare. With a strong focus on training, certification, licensing and experience, Radiance Medspa has won several professional awards including being honored as the Medium Business of the Year 2013 by the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce and being one of only 200 Black Diamond Award winners in the United States and the sole winner from Pinellas County for BOTOX and Juvéderm. Radiance Medspa is also the #1 BOTOX and Juvéderm business in the county and #1 Juvéderm business in the entire state of Florida and the Southeast United States.
Behind all of the awards and honors stands Owner and Director Stephanie Schlageter, a former Research and Development Engineer for a medical device company with a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. Schlageter has a hands- on approach to business that includes meeting with each of the medspa’s new clients for a one-on-one complimentary consultation that might take as long as an hour. If this seems like a lot of time and service to provide for a potential new patient, it is, but Schlageter determined that it would always be the cornerstone of the company’s vision.
Her business philosophy has earned the medspa not only industry accolades, but plenty of loyal clients too. Opened in Belleair Bluffs in the spring of 2006, Radiance Medspa expanded to a second location at the Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa in Clearwater in 2011. The caring staff provides the medically-based aesthetic treatments of the latest non-surgical technologies that improve upon the many signs of aging including lines, wrinkles, spots, loose skin, excess fat and unwanted hair. At all times, the Radiance Medspa staff focuses on honesty and education. They never recommend a treatment they do not believe is appropriate, and they make a point of helping patients understand all of the options to make the very best decision about a treatment plan. Most importantly, all treatments are performed exclusively by either an MD or licensed nurse practitioners and medical aestheticians.
Schlageter’s background in medical devices and biomedical engineering ensures that the treatments, equipment and services provided at Radiance Medspa will always be safe, current and effective. Growing up in the Chicago suburb of Evanston, Ill., she was the middle child of a large family. By the age of 15, she had found her first job, working at a marina where she would eventually do everything from ferrying boat owners to and from their moorings to fixing outboard engines. Eventually, Schlageter worked her way up to Harbormaster, becoming the first woman to ever run that harbor. She only left the job to take her initial engineering position after graduate school.
Other early professional experience included teaching English for a year in the small town of Jihlava, Czechoslovakia after earning a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University. Fully recognizing that her natural talents had always lain in math and science, Schlageter attended graduate school at Northwestern University, earning the degree in Biomedical Engineering, which was a perfect marriage of her lifelong interest in medicine and engineering. Relocating to Largo, Fla. in 1995 to begin her engineering career, she was able to continue her education with business classes, which eventually sparked in her the desire for entrepreneurship. And the Bay Area has benefited ever since.
The services Radiance Medspa offers include popular treatments like BOTOX, Juvéderm and Laser Hair Removal. Brown spots disappear with Fraxel Max; for skin tightening, the most recent applications of Ulthera are available, and the body contouring of Slimlipo can take off inches. For these and other treatments, Schlageter stays on top of the most cutting edge developments in the industry. She is an expert at comparing procedures and equipment and choosing the best procedures that provide amazing results with typically very little discomfort or downtime.
The company is also active in supporting a number of charities and hosts at least two fundraising events annually such as Beauty Bash on the Beach, which raises funds for the Homeless Emergency Project. Schlageter is also on the Board of Directors for the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce, a Member of the Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce, a Friend of CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse) and a Friend of PACE Center for Girls. She is excited to be a founding committee member of AchieveHERS, a new organization that endeavors to provide support, education and inspiration for women in business.
Not surprisingly, Schlageter’s story does not end here. Married to Kurt Schlageter, a PhD neuroscientist who works in the pharmaceutical industry, she is also a marathon runner, boater and proud mother of a 12-year-old daughter who already plans to take over operations at Radiance Medspa when she grows up.
