There is minimal downtime after the skin pen microneedling treatment. You should expect your face to look and feel like you have a mild sunburn for a few hours after the treatment.
Results from microneedling treatments can last for years. Your body will continue the aging process and you can renew and rejuvenate your skin with another series of Skin Pen treatments whenever you notice the effects of time.
Avoid Direct Sun
Avoid direct sun on the treatment area for 1 week before and after your Skin Pen treatment. The treatment cannot be performed on sunburned skin.
Discontinue Exfoliants and Accutane
Discontinue Retin-A, Glycolic, Alpha or Beta Hydroxy Acids, and exfoliants for one week prior to each treatment. Discontinue Accutane (and any isotretinoin products) for 12 months prior.
Use Alastin Products
Best results are achieved when the skin is well hydrated at the time of treatment. For this reason, it is strongly advised that you prepare your skin for treatment using the skin care products listed below for 14 days prior to treatment: Alastin Regenerating Skin Nectar and Alastin Silk Shield All Mineral SPF 30
Discontinue Blood Thinners
To minimize the likelihood of bruising, discontinue the use of blood thinning medications and supplements for 2 weeks before and 1 week after treatment; NSAIDS for 3 days before and 1 week after treatment
Avoid Alcohol
Avoid drinking alcohol the night before and the day of your treatment.
Stop Autoimmune Therapies
Only with the approval of your physician, autoimmune therapies should be temporarily discontinued 24 hours before and after treatment.
History of Cold Sores
If your face will be treated and you have a history of facial cold sores, please notify us in advance so that we may provide you with a prescription for antiviral medication to start before your treatment. The Vivace treatment cannot be performed on your face if you have an active cold sore.
Be Healthy
It is important that you are in good health at the time of your treatment to ensure your body has a healthy healing response after the treatment. Healthy healing is important for your safety (i.e., to minimize infection) and to ensure good results.
Healing
It is important to wait at least 4 weeks after a Skin Pen treatment and until any redness, swelling and/or peeling have completely resolved before getting other treatments on the same area. When getting a Vivace treatment after other treatments, it is important that the area to be treated is not swollen, irritated, peeling, or bruised at the time of the Vivace treatment.
Clean Skin
Please come to your appointment with clean skin ā remove all makeup, creams, and lotions.
Dress Comfortably
Please dress so that you may comfortably and modestly expose the treatment area, when applicable (i.e.chest).
Medications
If antiviral medication was prescribed for you, please make sure to continue to take as directed. Acetaminophen/Tylenol may be taken if needed to relieve any discomfort. NSAIDS and anti-inflammatories, should not be used for 1-week post treatment.
Immediately After Treatment
Do not apply anything to the skin for 6-8 hours after treatment. This includes make-up, SPF, or products of any kind. Avoid clothing, headbands, hats, or scarves on the treated area. Redness and/or swelling is common and will resolve within 1-2 days.
8 Hours After Treatment
Cleanse skin then apply the products recommended to you by your clinician. Do not apply anything else to the skin. Alastin Regenerating Skin Nectar, Alastin Ultra Calm Cleansing Cream, Alastin Ultra Light Moisturizer with TriHex Technology, Alastin Silk Shield All Mineral SPF 30
Side Effects
Bruising, pinpoint bleeding, minor scabbing, minor breakouts, swelling and/or redness may occur and will resolve within 7-10 days of treatment. Do not pick, peel, rub, scrub or irritate your skin in any way while it is healing, as this may cause scarring.
Avoid Heat / Exercise
Avoid heat, saunas, hot tubs, and sweaty activity; this includes exercise of any kind.Ā
Avoid Makeup
Mineral make-up may be worn; however, we recommend leaving skin clean for this period if possible.
Be Gentle
Ā Avoid using exfoliants, retinols, alpha or beta hydroxy acids, or topical Vitamin C products for at least a week after the treatment. Do not use any mechanical cleaning devices (i.e., Clarisonic), facial scrubs or washcloths on the treated area - only wash the area with your hands ā for at least a week.
Avoid Sun Exposure
Avoid direct sun exposure and wear a large-brimmed hat and minimum 35 SPF for at least 2 weeks post-treatment. This is important to ensure proper healing and to minimize chances of scarring.
Schedule Follow Ups
Please schedule your follow-up appointment 90 days after your final Skin Pen treatment to assess results and determine whether additional treatments are needed.

We believe PRP and medical grade skin care are integral and critical to the results of the treatment, therefore both PRP and a post care kit is included in the price of a single treatment, or a series. At the time of service, PRP will be applied last to accelerate healing using your bodyās own growth factors. Once home and at the appropriate time, you may begin to use the medical grade skin to ensure healing and great results.
Does the Treatment Hurt?
During a Skin Pen Microneedling treatment, you can expect to feel prickly, warm sensations in some areas but for the most part, you will feel little to nothing as a result of your skin being numbed prior to the procedure using a topical numbing cream. After the treatment, your skin will feel tight and warm similar to a mild sunburn. There is no residual discomfort or pain following the treatment.
Is there Downtime after the Skin Pen?
There is minimal downtime after the skin pen microneedling treatment. You should expect your face to look and feel like you have a mild sunburn for a few hours after the treatment. In some cases, areas of mild swelling will occur after the treatment and can even appear the following day. This is a normal response by the body and indicates healing and collagen remodeling is taking place. You should plan to keep your skin as clean as possible and should not apply makeup on the skin for 24 hours following treatment.
How long will results from the SkinPen last?
Results from microneedling treatments can last for years. Your body will continue the aging process and you can renew and rejuvenate your skin with another series of Skin Pen treatments whenever you notice the effects of time. Taking good care of your skin after your treatment is critically important for making the results last. The use of high-quality medical grade skin care on your skin and keeping your skin out of direct sun are two of the best practices you can follow for maintaining your new, beautiful skin after treatment. Most patients will enjoy the results of this type of treatment for at least 1-2 years before they may want to repeat it again.
How Soon Will I See Results?
Results from a Skin Pen precision microneedling treatment may appear after just one treatment. However, to see full correction, a series of treatments is recommended. The production of new collagen and elastin will continue for up to 6 months following each treatment. It is important to complete a series of at least 3 Skin Pen treatments to get optimal results.
How many microneedling treatments will I need?
Skin Pen Microneedling is performed in a series of 3-6 treatments spaced about a month apart. From just one treatment, you will begin to see results, and those results will get better over time reaching the maximum effect about six months after your final treatment.
