The fat pads that give our faces shape and fullness when we are younger slowly diminish over time allowing the face to droop and sag and causing lines and wrinkles to appear. This is where Juvéderm dermal fillers step in. Made of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a sugar molecule that occurs naturally in the body, Juvéderm injectable gel is used to replace lost volume by injecting just enough volume in just the right places to restore a natural-looking more youthful appearance. What is Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC?
Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC offers a targeted solution for treating lines around the mouth, nose, and lips and can also be used to fill in hollows below the eyes (dark circles) and temples, and even add volume to the hands. Because Juvderm Ultra Plus is made of Hyaluronic Acid, which naturally occurs in the skin, it provides a safe method of treating lines and wrinkles with long-lasting results that look and feel natural.

Juvederm Ultra Plus Details
1-2 weeks
Results from Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC typically last up to a year.
Consider Blood Thinners
To minimize the likelihood of bruising, the use of blood thinning medications and supplements should be discontinued for 2 weeks before your treatment.
Decrease Alcohol
Avoiding alcohol the evening before your BOTOX treatment and for 4 hours after your treatment will also minimize your chances of bruising.
Avoid Invasive Procedures
Invasive procedures should be avoided before and after your filler appointment to avoid infection. Please avoid any of these for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after treatment.
Be Healthy
Filler treatments may not be performed if you have an active infection or illness or are being treated for one. All prescribed antibiotics must be completed 2 weeks prior to treatment and any infections or illnesses must be completely resolved before you can safely get Filler.
History of Cold Sores
If you have a history of facial cold sores, please notify us in advance so that we may provide you with a prescription for antiviral medication to start before your treatment.
Remove Makeup and Creams
Please come to your appointment with a clean face – remove all makeup, creams and lotions.
Side Effects
Tenderness and swelling at the injection site after the treatment are common and should resolve within 24-48 hours. Bruising is also common and should resolve within 7-10 days.
Apply Ice
Ice may be applied to the area after Juvéderm Ultra/Ultra Plus/Volbella/Vollure/Volux treatment to help reduce swelling. Ice should not be applied to the area after Juvederm Voluma injections to avoid infection.
Keep Area Clean
Keep the treated area clean and do not apply makeup to the area for 24 hours following your treatment. Refrain from touching your face or allowing anything unclean to come in contact with your face.
Gentle Cleansers
For 48 hours post treatment, use only gentle cleansers, and apply gentle pressure when cleansing the treated area – do not use cleaning tools (i.e., Clarisonic) or facial scrubs on the area.
Avoid Heat / Exercise
For 24 hours after your treatment, avoid straining, heavy lifting, vigorous exercise and all forms of heat such as hot tubs, saunas, sun exposure and tanning beds.
Results
Filler results can last from 8 to 24 months, depending on the type and amount of Filler injected. To maintain best results, the area should be retreated as recommended by your provider and/or as soon as you notice lines and wrinkles are starting to reappear in the treated area.
Frequently Asked Questions
When will I see results from my Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC injections?
You will notice improvement immediately following the treatment and final results will continue to develop over the next 1-2 weeks. The Hyaluronic Acid (HA) in Juvederm is hydrophilic, meaning it attracts water, so the product will usually plump up a little in the skin over the first 1-2 weeks after treatment.
Which areas respond best to Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC?
Juvederm Ultra Plus XC provides excellent improvement for lines around the nose and mouth, often referred to as marionette lines, smile lines, parentheses, or nasolabial folds. It is often also used to improve smoker’s lines/lip lines and to fill hollows or dark circles under the eyes. Juvederm Ultra Plus XC can even be used to add volume to aging hands and to hollow temples. It is truly a dermal filler with many uses.
Is there any downtime from Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC injections?
The only downtime sometimes associated with Juvederm (or any dermal filler) injections is swelling and bruising. With proper planning, this downtime can be minimized and often avoided all together. Discontinuing the use of blood thinners (Aspirin, Fish Oil, Advil, etc.) prior to getting an injection significantly reduces the chances of bruising. Although swelling is rare, using ice on the area is sometimes recommended to minimize swelling post treatment. Our expert medical staff will review important pre-treatment instructions with you prior to booking your treatment to help you have the least downtime and the best experience possible from your treatment.
Do Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC injections hurt?
Before injecting Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, a topical numbing cream is applied to the area. In addition, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC contains lidocaine to minimize any discomfort during treatment. Our injectors have many years of experience and are very well versed in making your Juvederm Ultra Plus XC treatment as comfortable as possible. If discomfort is experienced, it is usually in the form of temporary pinching, stinging, or a feeling of pressure in the area being treated and it quickly subsides once the treatment is complete.
What other treatments complement Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC?
The family of Juvéderm products includes three other types of Juvéderm in addition to Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC and the different types of Juvederm work extremely well together to create complete, natural looking correction for all areas of the face. Juvéderm Voluma XC is used to add volume and lift to the cheeks, Juvéderm Volbella XC is used to add subtle volume to lips, and Juvéderm Vollure XC, is used to produce a longer lasting yet softer result in the same places where Juvéder Ultra Plus XC is used. Juvéderm is often used in combination with BOTOX, which treats lines on the forehead, crow’s feet, and wrinkles between the eyebrows.
