For many people, facials act as an introduction to clinical skincare. Gentle, customizable, and often quite relaxing, the facials loved by our Clearwater and Tampa patients are perfect for prepping for a big night out or simply treating yourself to a bit of relaxation—with beautiful perks. Treat your skin and yourself to the relaxing, revitalizing experience of a customized facial.

What Is a Facial?

If you’re new to facials, you’ve probably wondered exactly what they entail. Think of a facial as sort of like a renewing massage for your face. You and your aesthetician share a private room. Before you begin, your aesthetician discusses your specific concerns with you and makes recommendations for your treatment. Finally, the treatment begins. You’ll lie on your back with the room lights dimmed (your aesthetician uses a lighted magnifier to visualize the details of your skin). Your aesthetician applies a series of products to your skin in a strategic order to deeply cleanse, exfoliate, and nourish. If requested, we can also safely extract blackheads and whiteheads. Depending on the specific facial you undergo, your skin may feel smoother, firmer, softer, or look brighter, clearer, and more even.

Facials typically last about 30 minutes, but can last longer depending on your particular treatment. When you book your appointment, we’ll give you a better idea of how long you can expect to be in the office.

Before & After Your Facial

Although facials are largely “come as you are” treatments, there are a few things you can do beforehand to make sure you get the most out of your visit.

  • Think about your specific skincare concerns and goals, and be ready to share them with your aesthetician. It’s important to be honest about your habits.
  • Be gentle to your skin in the days leading up to your facial. Avoid strong exfoliants and sun damage.
  • Consider the timing of your facial. If it’s a new treatment that you’ve never had before, give yourself a couple of “buffer days” between your appointment and a big event in case of an adverse reaction to a new product.

After your facial, there’s no reason to avoid any of your usual activities. However, you might consider altering your nightly routine to include only gentle cleansing and moisturizing, since using toner or an exfoliant can be “overkill.” Your aesthetician can recommend gentle skincare products for you to use during this time.
